Richard Boyd

A desire for making art.

Of course, it was the one time they didn’t take their instruments with them.

If not for a restaurant fire that destroyed his band’s livelihood, Richard Boyd might be a musician instead of a photographer.

Growing up in a family that includes accomplished artists and an aerodynamics engineer, Richard gravitated to music early on, even teaching himself Spanish guitar. If you went dancing in Roanoke in the late ‘70s, maybe you swayed to his band’s rendition of Best of My Love.

After the fire, Richard pivoted to photography, and it became second nature to him.

From suspending objects in midair to soothing baby tigers, Richard will do whatever is necessary to capture the perfect shot. He knows you get one chance, one frame to do it right.

His specialties are architectural, industrial and senior living photography – along with the occasional top-secret air force base. Richard likes to think on his feet, problem solving his way to a compelling story.

A Renaissance man, Richard enjoys an eclectic array of bands and artists, from emerging indie singers to The Beatles. Love Shack to Love Story.

Fire may have cut his music career short, but it couldn’t extinguish his desire for making art.
